On February 17th, a group of leading historians, scholars, political scientists and journalists gathered at the University of Massachusetts-Boston to begin a national conversation about the meaning of civility and its role in our public discourse. In this special two-hour program, WBUR presents highlights from "Civility and American Democracy: A National Forum," moderated by Tom Ashbrook.
Panelists include Diana Eck of Harvard University, Ilan Stavans of Amherst College, Joe Klein of Time Magazine/CNN and syndicated columnist Ellen Goodman. Both live and online audiences participated in the event.
"Civility and American Democracy: A National Forum" was presented by the Center for Civil Discourse at the McCormack Graduate School of Policy and Global Studies at the University of Massachusetts-Boston, in partnership with Mass Humanities, 90.9 WBUR and the National Endowment for the Humanities.
